The workaday quality of Shimano Ultegra 6800 marries nicely to the all-roads-are-good-roads vibe of the Colnago CX Zero. The bike is built for all the road riding you can imagine, without limitation of quality or pavement. Ultegra is excellent without ostentation, looks good covered in dirt, and doesn't have the need for polishing. It works great as is.
The CX Zero is the race bike to choose if you value comfort over the feedback of every crack in the road. The design is stable and compliant while offering incredible lateral stiffness to better translate leg power into vehicular speed. Colnago designed this as their northern classics bike, a bike that limits the road inputs while still offering great steering precision, but the comfortable ride translates well to all conditions. Some of their pro riders use this as their main race bike. It's not surprising. If you feel comfortable, it's easy to lay down the power.
Shimano Ultegra 6800 is a great eleven-speed road group that mimics Dura-Ace in everything, save price and relatively few grams of weight. All the functionality with a bit less flash is a good deal. The 11-25 eleven-speed cassette is paired with compact 50/34 rings for a range that is both wide and precise. The race-ready Ultegra wheels are dressed with 25mm Continental Grand Sport Race tires, for lightweight performance and long-riding comfort. If they don't provide enough grip or cushion, there's room for wider tires still.
Italian saddles have almost a lock on bicycle seats. Selle Italia's X1 saddle provides both extra cushion for your sit bones and a subtle channel to take away the possibility of perineal discomfort. Deda's stem and bars are used because their compact bend is comfortable from every hand position.
While the shifting here is mechanical, the frame can be swapped over to work with electronic very easily. Everything is already internal: plugs and stops get changed and the battery can be run under the down tube or inside the seat tube. And Colnago also includes their proprietary headset. Internal headsets have never been loved in Cambiago and this semi-internal design meets their standards for durability and replacebility, even working as a safety, failing before the frame does.
The Colnago CX Zero Ultegra Bike can be pounded every day in every way and come back for more.
